Our History

Evangelism was the key that opened the door for the birth of the Truitt Memorial Baptist Church in the Autumn of 1946. The Reverend Clyde P. Jones, a twenty-eight year old Mississippi College student set up a tent for revival. The people of Rankin County flocked to the services and God visited the worshippers with His presence and grace.

The excitement of the tent revival rushed through the community and during the revival services and people pleaded, "Help us start a church here!" An organizational meeting was called and Clyde Jones was asked to serve as pastor. Three days later Mrs. S.J. Truitt donated a plot of land on Old Brandon Road. The first permanent meeting space was erected in honor of her son Paul E. Truitt. Private Truitt died in May 2, 1944 serving the U.S. Military in northern Africa.

For the past sixty years the people of Truitt Memorial have sought to serve Christ and community. A number of ministers have worked along side of God's people in an effort to share the gospel with Rankin County and the Metro Jackson area. Among them include J.L. Reves, Malcolm Leach, Jimmy Wood, Barry Landrum, Glen Davis, Dan Jones, and others.
